1984 - A List of a Year!

I decided to do a Top 10 List! I like lists...they're fun!

Anyways, after watching American Idol I got the inspiration to do a Top 10 List for the Year I was born: 1984! Basically, just interesting fun-facts from an amazing year! :-)

1. January 24 - The Macintosh is introduced! Thank you Jef Raskin!
2. February 3 - The first live birth from an embryo transfer is announced.
3. April 6 - Terms of Endearment wins Best Picture at the 56th Academy Awards.
4. May 8 - The longest game in Major League Baseball begins between the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox. (The game is played over 2 days - lasting 22 innings - a total time of 8 hrs. and 6 min.)
5. July 18 - Beverly Lynn Burns becomes the first woman Boeing 747 captain in the world.
6. July 23 - Vanessa Lynn Williams becomes the first Miss America to resign when she surrenders her crown, after nude photos of her appear in "Penthouse" magazine.
7. August 11 - Then-President Ronald Reagan, during a voice check for a radio broadcast remarks, "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes".
8. November 6 - U.S. presidential election, 1984: Ronald Reagan defeats Walter F. Mondale with 59% of the popular vote, the highest since Richard Nixon's 61% victory in 1972. Reagan carries 49 states in the electoral college; Mondale wins only his home state of Minnesota by a mere 3,761 vote margin and the District of Columbia.
9. December 22 - Four African-American youths (Barry Allen, Troy Canty, James Ramseur, and Darrell Cabey) board an express train in The Bronx borough of New York City. They attempt to rob Bernhard Goetz, who shoots them. The event starts a national debate about urban crime, which is a plague in 1980s America.
10. Undated - Crack, a smokeable form of cocaine, is first introduced into the Los Angeles area and soon spreads across the United States in what becomes known as the Crack Epidemic.
